The Land
Jean Marie Acres is located on Treaty 4 territory. We are guests on the land near Weyburn, which is the traditional and ancestral territory of the Cree, Dakota, Lakota, Nakota, Saulteaux, and Métis Nations.
As a land based business with owners who live on and hold title to land here, we recognize our relationship to this place, understanding that this is a privilege that comes with a duty of care.
Our commitment is to move beyond ownership toward kinship. One of our goals is to educate others on how to increase and repair prairie habitat and reconnect to the land.
Our ongoing action is the tangible work of rebuilding habitat and restoring the soil on the flower farm, a step toward healing and stewarding this place in partnership with the ecosystems and communities that have sustained it since time immemorial.
The Farm
Jean Marie Acres is a small scale cut flower farm nestled on our home property just minutes from Weyburn, Saskatchewan.
We specialize in offering intimate u-pick experiences for small groups, running a bouquet subscription service during the growing season, and also offer a self-serve farm stand.
The Farmer
Meet Haleigh
Owner, flower farmer, and primary dreamer behind Jean Marie Acres. With a Bachelors Degree in Early Years Education she taught grades 4, 5, and 6 before having children. While no longer in the classroom setting, she treats the flower farm as a space of education both for herself and a space to share with others.
Haleigh is an outspoken advocate for mental health and is vocal about her own experiences with severe depression and anxiety. She struggles on the daily with ADHD and has too many tabs open literally and metaphorically. As a result of her struggles with mental health and living in a world built for neurotypical brains, she has learned that re-connecting with land through growing is one of the only spaces in which her body and mind can be calm.
She is passionate about increasing soil health, repairing habitats for native species, and incorporating native plants into landscaping.
Jean Marie Acres was named to honour Haleigh's mother and grandmother who are two of the most selfless and kind women she has ever known. These two women introduced her to the garden and invited her to get down in the dirt, where she was always welcome to help, harvest, play, and come to rest.
*Haleigh ropes Reluctant Flower Farmer J into all kinds of shenanigans whenever she can on the farm. He says his title is Chief Beautification Officer.*
Jean Marie Acres is located on our family's home property and we request that our children's childhood be respected. We do not offer drop-ins or tours of the farm outside of Garden Parties and events.
